Trefoil Technology Ltd has granted RTAL (China) Ltd rights for The Trefoil Process in China.

The Trefoil Process has been developed by Terry Green and is used to manufacture a high quality lightweight aggregate, for use in construction, from a wide range of waste materials including sewage cake, the biodegradable part of garbage, marine silts, red mud, and a wide range of ashes.

Initially a lab containing a small trial plant, staffed by RTAL employees, was established at ChongQing University. The results have been excellent, showing that not only is the normal process of utilising sewage sludge and other biodegradables mixed with useable materials from China, but that in some circumstances, the results are better than have been experienced in Europe. We have also successfully trialed new materials, e.g. coal gangue (mine tailings), lake silts, red mud and contaminated soils.

Unfortunately The University of ChongQing has since tried to claim that it developed the process for manufacturing light weight aggregate from pulverised fuel ash and sewage sludge despite Trefoil bringing the process to them and having taken several of their professors to the UK to see the commercial plant in operation long before our plant was installed in the university or any papers published by them. Fortunately the University’s has no understanding of the mechanical process. Trefoil and RTAL China, of course, has established prior knowledge. In 2012 a strategic Cooperation agreement was signed with Shandong Hengyuan Recycling Technology Development Company and construction will start shortly on a commercial sized plant which will operate from their main factory. http://www.wfhyjc.com.
